Multiplayer and Trading support coming to GBA4iOS 2.0!
I can bet you one of the main reasons why you ever wanted a Game Boy Advance (or Game Boy Color) emulator on your iPhone was to play a certain hit 90s game famously known as Pokémon.
Pokémon is one of the most popular handheld games so it does not come as a shock that people want to play it with every single features provided through official means - that is multiplayer battles and trading.
The second most requested GBA4iOS feature of all time, right after cheats, was multiplayer support. We knew for many months while beta testing that something as amazing as that would not come because it would only drag the already once-postponed release date, that is, until a certain little featured was introduced that changed the game: Software Update, a workaround that allows the developer to keep updating the app even though it has since been shut down by Apple.
This little feature opened the door to a possible future update that would include Multiplayer support. We knew, thanks to the FAQ4iOS Developer Interview that the Start3rs hosted, that Riley was working on it and would come sooner than originally planned if he had never implemented the Software Update feature, but we knew nothing besides that, until today…
Riley Testut tweeted a series of images that successfully demonstrate a trade in progress between his iPhone and iPad!
This is phenomenal news for all those people that have been begging for something like this since you all got your hands on the app on February 19, 2014.
We know that trading is coming to GBA4iOS 2.0 but what about battles? Happy to say that it is also coming and although there was no image teasers, Riley did tweet that he beat his fellow designer Paul Thor at a Pokémon battle.
As of right now there is no ETA (estimated time of arrival) on this feature. Who knows when it will be released, and I humbly ask you not to bug the developer with this question as it will get tiring to answer and might even take precious time from implementation.
Just know Multiplayer and Trading support is coming to GBA4iOS 2.0, know that it is being worked on and will be released when it’s ready.
